Q: 1995 Chevy Tahoe rear Window and Tailgate Latch not working?
I have a 1995 full size Chevy Tahoe with the standard lower tailgate with upper window setup in the rear. Normally you turn the key in the tailgate lock to open the window, then lift the handle to unlatch and drop the tailgate. These days however, the key just spins in the lock cylinder and the window does not unlock and therefore neither does the tailgate. Does anybody have any ideas on how to get this open other than a crowbar and dynamite? Is there any way of removing the inside trim panel on the tailgate while it is closed and the window is in place ? Any help would be appreciated.

A: yeah that happened to me. remove the trim on the inside of the back tailgate. then you can stick your key in there, turn it around and see what’s going on at the same time

Q: Radio lights on my 96 Chevy Tahoe are not working. How do I fix it?
The radio and cd lights on my 96 Chevy Tahoe are not working. I’ve replaced the radio because I thought the bulbs were burned out. I checked the fuses and those were fine. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

A: if you’ve replaced them hoping to fix the problem, then the issue is in the wiring harness. There’s a wire that goes from the light switch over to the plug in the back of the radio, and that’s got a break in it somewhere more than likely. The way to check is to locate the wire-both in the plug that goes to the back of the radio and at the light switch(this sounds tough, but it’s really not- to take the dash apart is pretty simple, just pull on it(but not too far or hard-you’ve got to unplug a few things as you pull it away like the electronic 4×4 switch(if equipped) and the headlight switch). take the two screws that hold the radio loose and pull the chassis of the radio out and unplug it. Now the tough part..but I’ll tell you how to cheat- go to a car audio store and see if you can look at a wiring harness adapter for your vehicle and if at all possible look to see what wire is marked “illumination”. Locate that wires position in the aftermarket plug, and you’ll be able to locate it in the plug in your vehicle. That should give you the color of the wire coming out of the plug. Now, go over to the other side of the dash where the headlight switch is located and find the same color wire in that plug. With a continuety tester, test both ends to see if its continuous…if so most testers will either light up or beep(depending on the tester)..if not, you’ll have to splice in a new wire.

Hope this helps!!

Q: does anyone know where the cam sensor is on a 99 chevy tahoe?
we have a 99 chevy tahoe and its not running quite right, any help would be great
when the distributor is set on TDC set on number one it would not run. we had turn the cap counter clockwise as far as it could go. could it still be the sensor or what what else could it be

A: its in the distributor on that one,it should have a 5.7 in it,if that was the problem though it shouldn’t run at all, scan the computer for a trouble code before you start replacing parts on it, that could also be a bad set of plugs in it,or plug wires, good luck

Q: Chevy Tahoe: What is that small speaker over the driver’s seat?
I have a 2001 Chevy Tahoe, and on the ceiling just over the driver’s seat is what appears to be a small 2″ speaker. When I first start the car, I get a buzzing engine sound coming from it. Is this in fact a speaker, or what the heck is it, and what does it do?

A: It is not a speaker. It is a inside air temp sensor and the buzzing you hear from it is a motor that is pushing air across it. You have to replace it to fix the problem. It is really easy to do this too. Just remove the trim and gently pull the headliner down just enough to push the old one out and install the new one in. Be careful as if you crease the headliner, it is permanent. Good luck.

Q: will a transmission out of a 99 silverado with a 5.3 liter fit in a 99 chevy tahoe with 5.7 liter?
I Have a 1999 chevy silverado transmission. The truck has a 5.3 liter engine. I need to put it in my 1999 chevy tahoe that has a 5.7 liter engine. Will this work?

A: this is a 4l60e and if thay are bouth 2 wd the bell should be the same but with a 50plus torx the bell can be swaped and i would suggest shanging the seals and use royal purple fluid , was their any metal in the pan of the old trans , if so you need to flush the cooler or bypass the old one with a 26000 gvw one but u must by pass the raidator and every thing , this trans has many little problems that can amount to a life of headackes if i can help i can be found at …..aamcogod@yahoo.com

Can you use a 1992 chevy truck grille to replace on a 1999 chevy tahoe? Tahoe is wrecked and needs grille found a 92

A: Chevy truck grilles should be interchangeable from 1988-1998. There are just two different styles. If you want one that looks like your original grill look for the years 1994-1998. If you want the old style, look for 1988-1993 grilles.

Q: When a 1996 Chevy Tahoe is stolen without a key, does the fuel pump shut itself down?
Our 96 Tahoe was stolen last night. We still have both sets of keys. My step sons tells us that without a key in the ignition, the fuel pump automatically shuts itself down. Is this true for theis year, make, and model?

I knew we needed a smaller, more fuel efficient car, but didn’t want to go about it this way! LOL!

A: They might just have a key to your car. All it takes to get one is the VIN and a dealer employee friend to cut it. To get around the security is easy too, you find out the passkey resistance from the VIN and bypass the switch with the right resistor(the same ones the installer would use to put a remote start on your car), and then slide hammer the key cylinder or cut and push the ignition switch rod in the column. The dealer you bought that vehicle from, if you did from a dealer, still has a set of keys to it as well. You just never know in today’s world. GM’s are easy to steal the security is kind of a joke. Someone leaves a car at my shop and takes the keys with them. If I can’t get ahold of the owner to get keys, I call the dealer and get a set DELIVERED. Think how easy that is.
