Q: How much do decent used cars cost?
I’ll be 16 soon, and I currently have a job. My parents will pay for half of my car, how much are nice used cars such as toyotas or hondas?
A: You can find a wide array of used cars for a very cheap price. The only thing is that they may not run. It can be a pain to buy a car from a dealer because they are doing their best to swindle you out of hard earned cash. I would suggest trying a website like GovernmentAuctions.org They have a pretty lengthy list of police seized and government surplus cars that are better than your average used car. You can also see the bids that cars are going for, and base your judgments on that.
Q: Any tips on buying a used car for the first time?
I’m 16 and have been saving up for a while and have almost $4,000. I’m looking to buy a used car, and my parents aren’t really helping me a whole lot. I know to look for low mileage and a pretty recent year, but that’s just about it. I always hear that Hondas and Toyotas are the best, but what are some others that also have a good reputation, yet not too expensive? What other key things should I keep in mind when looking around?
A: As a 16 year old, you will need your parents to help you. A minor can not legally contract for non-necessities (food clothing and shelter).
Several things to consider. One is the cost of insurance. It will be cheaper if you can add the car to your parent’s policy that to get a separate one. Some cars cost more to insure than others. A 4 cylinder 4 door car will be less than a V8 2 door.
You want to have any car you purchase checked out by your own mechanic (a shop, not just someone you go to school with who claims to know about cars) Have a vehicle history check done (CarFAX)
Lower mileage is better, but condition matters a lot. Sit down ans talk to your parents and ask then for their help. They may not want you to buy a car yet, and as a minor, they have the power over you to veto your purchase.
You say that you have $4000 saved. Do you have the money to pay for insurance, gas, maintenance, and still save for the future (college)? Insurance can easily cost 100 per month or more.
Good luck
Q: Whats the best used car to buy for $5000 or under?
I’m looking to buy a used car or truck for under $5000, but I’m not sure what to get. I want something that doesn’t have a ton of miles on it and can last awhile. Everyone says that hondas are the best or VW but I really don’t have a clue. I’m looking for something with more space, mostly in the backseat because I have a son. Does anyone have an idea of what I should buy?
A: Any GM car with a 3.8 V-6 motor. They last well up into the 100,000 mile range without problems. And compared to foreign cars that are reliable such as Honda or Toyota, are cheaper on insurance and can be purchased with fairly low miles for around $5,000. You would have to go with an older import with over 100,000 miles to get in your price range A few good examples of reliable GM cars are Buick LeSabre, Chevy Impala, and the Pontiac Grand Prix.
Q: Can Hondas use Toyota car parts?
this is a very general question and does not apply to any particular part.
i know that more expensive cars like Mercedes can only use their own specified parts.
… OR MORE GENERALLY, DIFFERENT CAR COMPANIES USING THE SAME PARTS?
A: nope hondas cannot use toyota parts !
Q: WHAT GOOD USED CAR OR TRUCK CAN I BUY FOR 2000 DOLLARS OR LESS?
i need a car or truck that would cost me around 2000 dollars or less, what is a good brand of vehicle that would be reliable from point A to B and that cheap?? and no Hondas civics since those cars are the easiest to steel, and what are some tips to buying a used vehicle? thnx!
A: It should be 4-door, 4-cyls, not sporty. I would prefer Honda or Toyota… First time drivers usually have much more expensive car insurance, and it depends from car. You should compare insurance rates while choosing the car – for example here – carinsurance.yoll.net
Q: What is the roadside assistance phone number for honda?
I have the Honda Care warranty for certified used hondas.
A: Here is te number for my Acura, it’s prolly the same motor company that Honda uses.
1 800 594 8500
Q: How much should you spend on a first car?
my parents bought me a 5,500 car last yr.
its a 2001 Saturn with over 100,000 miles. have had some problems. want something different but oh well.
i am just jealous b/c i have a bunch of friends who are getting new or slightly used cars. (new altimas, colbalts, ions, etc and slightly used hondas and toyotas.)
and i am stuck with this car. but i cant do anything about it so oh well. i am just bored and am asking questions like this. so how much should a person spend on a first car.
well my parents didnt want me to get a car made earlier than 2000 b/c they wanted it to have few/no problems mechanically.
listen up…. just b/c im jealous doesnt mean i am thankful for what i got. i am not complaining to my parents everyday that i want a new car so please stop sayng that i need to be thankful for what i got and just cus it doesnt look good blah blah blah. idc. ok. trust me…. if i thought my car was that bad… i would have purposefully wrecked it into a tree or something by now.
A: OK here’s mistake most people make when they see there friends getting hot new cars……..yes u might be jealous but just remember they most likely had to take out a loan and now the have car payments on top of insUrance and car up keep so…. just find a in town car lot and fined a car that is affordable and wont be a gas guzzler… so when Ur friends are dealing with payments you’ll be driven around in a old car but it will be Ur’s and u can save up 4 that new hot car and pay it off or at least pay half of it off so u wont have bad credit or annoying car notes……..i worked at a bank 4, 3 yrs and bought a 1994 explorer for 4….$1,500 and i already have $43,000 saved up for a Cadillac only two more paychecks! yeah!!!! so i would say car shop in ur town and see if people are selling their cars in there neighborhood and u should only spin about $1,500 – $8,500 a dealership is a last resort!!!!!! so i hope i have answered ur question…….loll i know a mouthful…!
Q: looking to buy my wife a small, inexpensive used car – which one?
I prefer Japanese cars, specifically the hondas and toyotas, nissans as well. But can’t afford as much right now. We need a second car for my wife, who is just learning to drive. Doesn’t want to drive our MDX, feels it’s too large for her. If I had the money, I’d get a new Fit or a Versa – but cash flow is a bit slow right now. So I’m looking used – only looking to spend $10G CAD. To get a used Civic for that price, I’d have to go a bit older than I like. So I’m considering the 2003 or 2004 Suzuki Aerio, 2004 Hyundai Elantra hatchback, or an older (2002?) Echo (hard to find them that old with lower mileage. Any thoughts/suggestions? I’d like to consider the Cobalt, but I have heard bad things about their crash test ratings. As mentioned, my wife would be a new driver, but often with 2 young children, so safety would be important.
A: I don’t know about Canada, but in the US, clean Hondas and Toyotas are as good as gold. I would gladly purchase an older Honda/Toyota over any of the other cars you mentioned.
The Suzukis are absolute crap.
And the Echo- does that look safe for 2 young children lol?
The Elantra is okay, but resale is horrid.
Q: Do they replace timing belts on certified Hondas?
If a used Honda is certified,50k miles, does that mean the timing belt is new?
A: I would doubt it. Honda does not recommend replacement for this typically until 120k miles. As such I would not expect that this would be replaced at a 50,000 mile certification unles there was damage to the belt prior to intake from the previous owner.
Q: How many miles can Hondas Fords and Acuras go before dying?
I was looking at a used car for my daughter and wanted to see how long these three can run before completely dying. 100k 200k or 300k?
A: it really depends on how you drive and what type of engine in my personal line of cars i havent had to many hondas or acuras last over 150K I own a 79 Bronco the engine is still strong with just over 320K
Q: Would you recommend Hondas or Toyotas?
I currently have a 2000 Chevy Malibu with 140,532 miles on it and the original alternator still on it (no major repairs except replacement of fuel pump about 50,000 miles ago, and routine maintenance — I think I’ve been fortunate so far). I plan to get a used vehicle when the Malibu fizzles out. I am afraid to get another American-made car because I know so many people who have had trouble with them. I hear such good reviews from my co-workers (and in Consumer Reports) about Hondas and Toyotas. One of my co-workers used to drive Chevys and in 1998 she got a Toyota, still drives it, and says she will not go back to Chevys. Also, my stepmother’s sister has a Toyota that has over 400,000 miles on it and they haven’t had to do any real major repairs.
I also notice that used Hondas and Toyotas depreciate very slowly. That’s got to be a good thing.
A: I’ve had three Toyotas and they have all been excellent. i recommend Toyotas.
Q: Shopping for a used car… Any tips?
I am going to go to a car dealership that sells certified used Hondas and Toyotas. I have $2000.00 to put as a down payment and I am shooting for a car that is about $12000.00 but I’m fairly flexible. I have never purchased a car on my own and my credit is young/kind of iffy. A few things:
1) Will I be taken seriously when trying to finance a vehicle if my credit isn’t that great but I have a down-payment of $2000.00 and a decent job (I make about $1800.00 a month and have low expenses)?
2) What sorts of cars should I look for, ie what years, mileage, models?
3) What questions should I ask?
4) What is insurance like for a 21 y.o. female with a fairly brief driving history, iffy credit, and a later model (I’m thinking 2003 and newer?) car?
A: 1. Females are generally never taken seriously which is why they are the #1 target for fraud by shady dealers. Take someone with you like your father, brother or a male friend that has purchased a car before.
2. Depends what you want.
3. Read this website at least twice: http://www.carbuyingtips.com… answers all your questions and even lists dealer scams to avoid.
4. Go to Geico.com and Esurance.com…. you’ll have a free online quote in 5 minutes without any obligations.
Q: what is a good reliable used car other than a toyata or honda?
Right now i have 2500 for a car so Im looking for something cheap and reliable. I not hoping for the car to last me 10 years, just as long as it last me 3-4 years without any problems.
I have been looking at hondas and toyotas but i just want some other options, thanks
A: mazda
Q: What used car retains its value, is good on gas and is reliable and will not break down often..?
I am looking for a new car because mine was recently totaled. I want something no older than 2000, and at least cute looking. I’m looking for a sedan or coupe. What model holds up to my specifications? Toyotas? Fords? Hondas? etc? Any answer and advice is welcome!!
A: Honda’s hold their value more than any other car for several reasons.
One they do not sell to rental car companies
This prevents flooding the market with your vehicle and prevents people from getting “tired” of seeing the car.
Secondly, they manufacture cars based on customer’s demands instead of cost efficiency. If trends call for small cars they make smaller cars (honda fit) if the trends call for trucks they make trucks.
This increases the demand for their cars
Thirdly, they very rarely offer dealer incentives (only once or twice a year, as opposed to every other week) This keeps the initial cost high.
So there you have it, a combination of supply and demand keeps them valued high. We all know Honda’s are extremely fuel efficient, especially if you spring for any one of the hybrids.
My favorite model is the Accord, its spacious, fuel efficient, and practical.
btw ….if you take a deep breath after reading this answer, you just smelled 10 points!
