Q: What causes low running mpg for 1996 honda civic?
I have a 1996 honda civic DX hatchback, and its suppose to run 28 mpg city & 35 mpg for highway, but in the city it only runs about 18, and about 23 for highway why is that?

also sometimes it shakes, why is that?

A: There are lots of factors that reduce your mpg. Sounds like you are losing power whether you are idle or constantly running on the freeway.

I would suggest you inspect and adjust your timing. Having improper timing can leave your cylinders in a position where it cannot combust properly to achieve maximum power. This is done by enabling the service pin with a paperclip and using a timing gun against your crankshaft pulley to observe the rotational marking. Adjustment is done by loosening the bolts on your distributor allowing you to slightly twist to advance (or retard) your timing.

You may also want to inspect the compression value for each cylinder using a compression gauge. Air leaks in your cylinders can also result in loss of power and efficiency. This is done one at a time by removing the sparkplug from the cylinder you want to inspect and replacing it with the compression gauge (firmly attached). Start your engine and let it crank for about 8 times, then read the PSI. If any of the cylinders are less than 135 PSI then you may have a slight leak; about 180 is maximum compression and very good.

Q: What car should i get a Toyota 4runner or a Honda Civic?
I have to choose between these two cars and i dont know which, the toyota 4 runner is a 1997, 4 cylinders and has 4 doors,. The honda civic is a 1999, 4 cylinder, and has 4 doors . Price isnt a factor here.

A: well one is a truck the other is a car.

as trucks go the 4Runner does have very good handling and manners compared to most trrucks but it will get lower mpg than a Civic.

I just drove home in a heavy rain storm and several cars were stalled on the side of the road. (high water)

I drove my truck very slowly thru the water and arrived home without suffering the same fate.

trucks do have some advantages.

one of the cool things about 4Runners is the rear glass can be lowered and raised. If you open the windows it creates a nice flow of air. a unique feature not found on most trucks.

you can find Nissian Pathfinders & Xterras for a few thousand dollars less than a 4Runner.

the Xterra is capable off road, if you ever need that but it does suffer from some truck like handling and chop over hwy bumps.

Q: How do I replace the stoplight switch in a 1987 Honda Civic?
I was just told that the cause of my brakelights not turning off was a bad brakelight switch. I picked-up a replacement for the switch, but I am clueless on how to replace it. I have found guides online, but none of them for my car. I have a 1988 Honda Civic with automatic transmission and the hatchback body type. Can anyone lend me a hand. Also, if it is possible, provide visuals. I’m not a “car” person, but I follow directions well, so with much details provided, I can replace it easily. Thanks to anyone who can help.

A: If you follow your brake pedal up it is setup oon the arm of the brake pedal. Once you remove it you will see how the new one goes in. They usally only snap in with some circlips or the like. Simple in and out.

Q: My Honda Civic sometimes lags when I take my foot off the brake, what could be causing this?
I have a 1996 Honda Civic, often when I take my foot off the brake it will sit still for a couple of seconds before suddenly flying forward. It seems to do this mostly when I stop at a traffic light and want to inch forward a bit or when I’m parking. What could this be caused by? And should I worry about it or not?

A: when was the last time your tranny fluid was replaced? that can couse the tranny to mess up. I’d go get it serviced.

Comments:
Tricky and time consuming.

——————————————————————————–

Step 1Start by popping off the gear stick gator.

——————————————————————————–

Step 2Now put your hand in the hole where the rubber was and pull up carefully, unclipping the gear stick silver surround.

——————————————————————————–

Step 3You should now see two screws, one on each side under what is left of the center dashboard.

——————————————————————————–

Step 4Once undone, on some cars there are some 8mm bolts which you can access with a spanner, undo these. You may need to go through the glove box to get to one of them! This should now allow you to lift the top radio part off.

——————————————————————————–

Step 5Then un-clip the top.

——————————————————————————–

Step 6Now disconnect the wiring and aerial plugs and any switch wires you see. The radio can now be removed from the fascia panel

Q: What kind of oil should I use in a 2000 Honda Civic LX?
The owner’s manual encourages me to get specially formulated oil from Honda, but it’s just a plain old civic and it doesn’t give me any idea on whether I should go 5w30 or 10w30 or whatever.

A: dude i always use castrol. its the best. use 5w-30 it is what nost cars today call for. use high millage if you have high miles, it really helps.

Q: How do I clean the instrument cover in my 2008 Honda Civic?
Hello. I have a 2008 Honda Civic with the digital speedometer on top of the dash. I had it cleaned at a carwash that used Armor All or something like it to clean the dash. On the plastic cover for the instruments there’s all little dots and I cannot get out! I used windex, dish soap and scrubbed the crap out of it! Nothing works. Any ideas? Thanks!

A: Try a plastic polish such as Meguiar’s Plast X. I assume your instruments are protected with clear plastic. Put a little on a microfiber towel and rub it on. Go back over with the dry side of the towel and buff it off. Be gentle as the plastic scratches easily.

Q: What are the window dimensions of a Honda Civic?
I need to know the window dimensions of a Honda Civic i thinkkk EX and its an 08 model. I need to ask someone to a dance so I can’t exactly ask the owner. And it’s a 4-door. I need the windshield, all 4 side windows, and the back window too. So all the windows. Thanks so much!

Q: How to add additional tabs to 2007 Honda Civic Navigation Audio Screen?
I’ve got XM installed on my 2007 Honda Civic W/ Navigation and there is only 2 tabs for displaying presets. As you all know there are nearly 150 channels. I thought it would be pretty cool to have one tab be All Sports, another to have “Wake me up, I’m tired” music and the third/forth anything else I could find that I liked. Just an idea, but I am sure if this puzzle could be solved, there will be plenty of folks out there that would greatly appreciate the hack!!! Thanks to all!

A: I do not know but if you want to keep your warranty intact, leave those things alone.

Q: How do install 6 x 9 speakers in a 92 Honda Civic which has only has holes cut for 6 1/2 speakers?
I have a 92 Honda Civic which only had font door speakers installed. While installing a new CD deck I discovered that there where rear speaker wires already run so I took a look in the back to discover only hole for 6.5 speaker. It looks like without some serious cutting that they cant be installed. Any suggestions?

A: I think it would be easier to get some 6.5 speakers any way 6.5 usually sound better than 6 x9 and then sell your 6×9 on e-bay or Craig’s list

I have a 1994 Honda Civic DX coupe. I am wondering how much the total would cost to turbo charge my car. This includes everything except labor costs.

A: Unless your engine is brand new a turbo will probably just cause it to blow up.So by the time you rebuild the blown engine about 6000 bucks(depending on how bad the motor lets go).
